FAQ

 frequently asked questions

Why don’t we start with design?

Because good design begins with understanding.

Before we draw floor plans or discuss finishes, we take time to understand how you want to live, what your property offers, and what you’re really hoping your project will make possible. That clarity leads to better design decisions and fewer costly changes later.

What is the Clarity Journal™?

The journal is a personalized roadmap for your project. It summarizes what we’ve learned together, identifies opportunities and constraints, outlines design direction, and recommends thoughtful next steps. Whether we continue working together or not, you’ll have a clear framework for moving forward.

What kinds of projects is this best suited for?

The Clarity Conversation is ideal if you’re considering:

  • A new home

  • A renovation

  • An addition

  • An ADU or guest house

  • A property you’re thinking about purchasing

If you’re wondering whether your idea makes sense, this is a great place to begin.

What if I decide not to hire you afterward?

That’s perfectly okay.

The purpose of the Clarity Conversation is to help you make informed decisions. You’ll leave with greater clarity, practical guidance, and a written report that you can use however you choose.

Can I use the Clarity Journal™ with another architect or builder?

Yes.

The report belongs to you.

Many clients continue working with me, but you’re free to use the report however it best serves your project.

Do I need to have a property before we meet?

Not necessarily.

Some clients already own their property.

Others are deciding between several possibilities.

The Clarity Conversation can help in either situation.

How long does the process take?

Most Clarity Conversations are completed over three to six weeks, depending on scheduling.

The process includes:

  • An initial Zoom conversation

  • A site visit

  • Research and analysis

  • Your Clarity Journal™

What happens after the Clarity Conversation?

If we’re a good fit and you decide to move forward, the Clarity Conversation becomes the foundation for the design process.

We’ll move into Create, where ideas become architecture, and eventually into Craft, where those ideas are brought to life through construction.

Why is there a fee before design begins?

Because the most valuable decisions in any project happen before drawings begin.

Investing in clarity at the beginning often saves far more in time, money, and unnecessary changes later. Rather than offering a free consultation that barely scratches the surface, I offer a professional service that gives you meaningful guidance and a clear path forward.
